02The job
What is planning permit advertising?
Before council decides many planning permit applications, the people nearby have to be told. Councils call it advertising planning applications. It usually means a Notice of Application on the site and letters to the neighbours, and when council asks you to arrange it, we do both.
03Related notices
Other notices we produce
A planning permit application can lead to other notices. We produce and install all five, in line with the rules for each.
Council planning permits
This page. The notice council asks for when it advertises your planning permit application.
Liquor licences
A venue applying for a liquor licence often needs a planning permit too, and each has its own notice.
VCAT signage
If a permit decision goes to VCAT for review, notice of the review can be needed on site.
DTP ministerial permits
When the Minister for Planning (DTP) approves the permit instead of council, the application still needs public notice.
Report and consent applications
Some building works need council's report and consent, where neighbours need to be notified.

What is planning permit advertising?
It's how council tells people about a planning permit application before it decides. Under section 52 of the Planning and Environment Act 1987, notice usually goes to the adjoining owners and occupiers, by letter, a Notice of Application on the site, or both. Source: Planning and Environment Act 1987.
Who puts up the planning notice?
Council either gives notice itself or asks the applicant to. When it's yours to arrange, we produce and install the Notice of Application, and can post the mail-outs for you.
Do you handle advertising planning applications for councils?
Yes. Councils can outsource the notice work on the applications they advertise, and we produce and install the notices, and can post the mail-outs for them.
How long does a planning notice stay up?
Through the display period. We monitor it the whole time, and notices are removed when required. Every job is documented for your records.
Do you prepare or lodge the planning application?
Your architect or town planner usually prepares and lodges it. We handle the public notice and the mail-outs once council asks for them.
How much does planning permit advertising cost?
Every job is quoted. Send us the site address and whether you need mail-outs, and we'll review the details within 24 hours.
